Medicaid Doesn't Cover Major Dental Needs

  • For people 21 years and older Florida Medicaid only covers emergency dental services to alleviate pain and infections.

  • More than 2.7 million visits to the ER in 2017 were tied to preventable dental problems.

  • Providing comprehensive dental benefits to Medicaid-enrolled adults reduces costly emergency department (ED) visits for dental conditions

I Have Medicaid Dental Insurance but My Dental Pain Continues!

By Jennifer C., Hillsborough County

“I’m a mom with two children one of which has special needs. I had to stop working to take care of him full time, which means I qualify for Medicaid. Medicaid’s dental program limits the number and type of services you can get each year. Usually, root canals aren’t covered and cost around $2,000. That’s not something I can afford.”
