Saving on Health Coverage Made Life Easier: L.J.'s Navigator Story

L.J., lives in Hillsborough County and worked for the state of Florida for over 20 years. That was until she realized that the level of stress she was under was negatively impacting her health. She was able to take some time off, but after COVID, she needed to get back to work and found employment as a kindergarten classroom assistant in her local school district. Although she received health insurance through her employment, it meant giving up most of her pay. She was left with few options because she relied on the coverage for herself and her teenage daughter.

“After a few deductions from my pay, I realized I didn’t have enough money to pay my bills.”

So, L.J. eventually discontinued her employer-based insurance and was referred to the Family Health Care Foundation for help. A Marketplace Navigator helped her find an affordable plan with premium assistance and helped her sign her daughter up for coverage through Florida KidCare.

Navigators across the state of Florida are assisting individuals like L.J. to explore their options and find affordable health coverage. This coverage is enabling Floridians to receive the care and medications they need to lead healthier lives. In the Tampa Bay area, you can get free assistance from a qualified local Navigator at the Family Healthcare Foundation (www.familyhealthcarefdn.org).
