STATEMENT: Florida Voices for Health Response to Legislative Approval of the 2026-2027 State Budget

Tallahassee, Fla. - Today, after months of delay, the Florida Legislature approved a $114.5 billion state budget, with at least $49 billion going towards health care priorities.

In response to the final Legislative budget approval, Scott Darius, Executive Director with Florida Voices for Health, shared the following statement:

“This budget shows the impact Floridians can have when they band together against cuts in the health care space. From keeping the AIDS Drug Assistance Program running to protecting services for the disability community, we saw several successful movements to urge our lawmakers to continue funding these essential programs and even find new avenues to improve access to sickle cell therapies.”

“At the same time, these battles also highlight how easy it is for vulnerable communities to find themselves on the chopping block. Every day, we hear from people facing serious health challenges but lacking access to the care they need to diagnose, treat, or manage their conditions. Whether it’s unaffordable coverage, a shortage of providers, or limited access to clinics and specialists in their communities, too many Floridians continue to face barriers to care. The Florida Legislature can and must do more to ensure the state budget reflects the health care needs of its communities.”
